John C. Lyons has written, directed, and produced two feature films and three short documentaries. His features "Schism" and "There Are No Goodbyes" were made on a shoestring budget and received Best Screenplay at Director’s Chair Film Festival NYC, and the Purple Heart Award at Zero Film Festival Los Angeles. In 2017, Lyons produced the short film “#OurErie” which was viewed over 100,000 times in 48 hours. In 2018, he will begin production on his most ambitious film yet, the eco-thriller "Unearth," with his wife and partner Dorota Swies. In addition to working full-time as the IT Service Desk Manager for Edinboro University, where he obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Mathematics, he serves as the Executive Director of the non-profit Film Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania, where he leads the development committee and programs quality cinema for a variety of film series—all feeding into the overarching goal of building a new, inclusive industry in the Erie region. His efforts brought attention to local media, resulting in Erie Reader's 40 Under 40 (2013), Young Erie Professionals Generation-E Leadership Award (2009), Erie Times-News’ People of the Year (2007) Erie Reader’s “Best Filmmaker” Award (2014-2016), and recognition by James Fallows in The Atlantic (2017).
